It wasn’t long ago that Ahwlee released a beat tape that my girlfriend said, “Would sound better without clothes on.” I agreed. So, since then I’ve become a fairly big fan of the California glitch-hop producer. When Hi. starts it cracks on. Its two left-footed snares stumble into earshot and a skillfully chopped ‘n screwed sample whines in the foreground. From there he samples the bass line in Teddy Pendergrass’s “Love T.K.O.” and makes a love ballad appropriate for 2012 (but, then does Teddy ever get old?) This is a nice tape folks. This is a damn fine beat tape.
