I’m still waiting on a few tracks to be sent my way, in the meantime, here’s Sunni Colòn (formerly Sunni Ali Ber). Seriously, don’t know much about the guy other than his name is derived from the Muslim leader, Western-African, Songhai King, Sonni Ali.
This kid’s music is like if that Blue Oyster sh-t met that Afghan Kush I had – and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, that crazy Northern Light stuff I had and the Super Red Espresso Snowflake met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and f-cked – this would the sh-t that they birthed.
Really though? He’s like if Kid Cudi met Mos Def, meets Robin Thicke, meets a bag of Cheetos, or, as he says, if “bad meets good”. His track, “Shoota!”, features a snare run that you’d hear lining up for battle and a subtle, marching, bass that claps like a rawhide drum. It’s war.
Along with a ripping guitar, reminiscent of the one in Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”, and a crime-show-on-the-prowl-of-the-investigation bass line, the production is phenomenal. MY BEEF: It’s hard not to think of Cudi when he’s spitting. But, it’s still oddly engaging, though, (in my opinion) it’s cookie cutter flow. All hating aside, it’s a good track worth listening to, and Sunni Colòn shouldn’t be slept on. He’s a star waiting in the wings. 7.5/10
